My name is Yokoi. In March 2010, I received my graduate degree from the Science of Nursing College of Chiba University. During my two years there, the study was harder than I expected. However, I had a scholarship from the Tyler Foundation so I did not need to worry about money and could focus on study. I would like to explain about my study in the university.
The main part of the Certified Nurse Specialist course (CNS) is CNS practical training. For this training, we went with three certified nurses and learned direct care, consultation, collaboration, ethic adjustment, education and research. I also did two weeks of practical training at UCLA University in the U.S. At UCLA University, I went with certified nurses and nurse practitioners who were skilled nurses to learn their role and the systems of the hospital. It was very positive experience; moreover, I could compare differences between Japan and the U.S. Before those studies, I focused on children, but I realized that I should focus on children and their families. In addition, if nurses are to provide high quality service for children and their families, nurses have to brush-up and it is very important to collaborate with doctors, chemists, nutritionists, and social workers. Therefore, CNS’s as skilled nurses are very important for the clinical site.
This month I start working in Shizuoka Children’s Hospital. I learned a lot during the two years studying at University. Using this knowledge and skill, I would like to make children and their family’s lives much better and study more to get CNS certification. Thank you very much.
