From April, 2008, the Tyler Foundation employed a qualified child care specialist, Kozue Ueyama. Her role is to look after the siblings of hospitalized children whose families are staying at Donald McDonald House next to NCCHD. A “baby-sitting” service has long been on a wish list of many families with children in hospital. Providing care for kids (aged 0-6) five days a week, Ueyama-san’s program will truly bring peace of mind to families caring for a sick child while trying to maintain some kind of normalcy with their other children.
Program Summary
- Goal - To provide sibling childcare for families with children in hospital
- Need - Generally, children under 12 cannot enter hospital wards in Japan even to visit siblings. If parents are attending to their sick child in hospital, it is difficult to simultaneously look after their other child/children.
