Meet Our Champions
Well respected local Japanese running club Second Wind, is an active supporter of the Shine On Marathon Challenge.
Club President and highly esteemed athlete Manabu Kawagoe helps provide exceptional training programs and support to high profile marathon runners here in Japan. Second Wind runners will be supporting Shine On Marathon Challenge by sharing their tips and hints on marathon training and racing.

Our Shine On Marathon Challenge Representative - Mara Yamauchi
Mara Yamauchi is a top British marathon runner. In 2006 she set her personal best of 2:25:13 to come 6th in the London marathon, a time which ranks her as the 2nd fastest British woman marathon runner ever. In 2006 she also won the bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne in the 10,000m, was ranked 10th in the world for road running and topped the British rankings for 10,000m, 10km road, half-marathon and marathon.
She is currently preparing for her next main goal – to win a medal at the the 2008 Olympic Games. Mara is currently on unpaid leave from the UK Foreign & Commonwealth Office to focus on her running career and lives in Tokyo with her Japanese husband, Shigetoshi. Mara just ran the the marathon at the World Championships in Osaka this summer representing Great Britain where she came 9th.
