To all supporters of the Tyler Foundation,
The earthquake and tsunami that occurred in the Tohoku region on Friday, March 11 has caused severe damage, and its victims include children receiving in and outpatient treatment for a variety of illnesses as well as thousands of children who have been displaced by the disaster and are now experiencing varying degrees of post traumatic stress disorder.
In the Tohoku region, the Tyler Foundation is providing physical and emotional support to pediatric patients and their families, as well as caring for children in the affected communities who need extra psychological encouragement and support.
We aim to provide this very special level of support by:
- Directly communicating with families of patients in hospitals to evaluate their needs and offer support based on their individual requirements
- Sending our Smile Ambassador – TF’s professionally-trained magical clown, TF’s Shine On! Therapy Dog team, and other skilled professionals to provide psycho-social support in evacuation centers, schools and hospitals
- Using Strands of Strength – part of our Shine On! Beads of Courage Program – to enable children in schools outside of the affected areas to provide a creative gift of personal encouragement to children struggling to return to normalcy
As always, our projects to support children and families in Tohoku are consistent with our mission of empowering children and improving quality of life while they go through their individual struggles and challenges.

被災地で治療を続けている、あるいは治療を終えご自宅に戻っているお子さんたち、ご家族は、どんな思いで日々過ごしているのだろう、ととても気になっていました。
治療に専念できる環境を整えるために、少しでもお役にたてればうれしいです。
病気のときって誰でも不安になりますよね。大人だってそうだから、子どもにはもっと大きなストレスですよね。そこにこの未曽有の大惨事が起きたわけですから。。。子どもたちやその家族のみなさんを支えるために、少額ですが、すこしでも足しになれば。。。寄付以外にも自分にできることがあれば積極的にやっていきたいです。
When I watched devastation caused by huge earthquake and tsunami on TV and on the web, I felt a strong desire to help those who had suffered in the huge disaster and then donated some money to the Japanese Red Cross.
After that, I had been thinking of what I could do to help them. At that time, Paul told me about this project. I was moved by the purpose of this project and three guys who are concerned about children in Japan and then decided to support them. I believe that the children will make Japan recover. So, I hope they from foreign countries will encourage children in Tohoku.
地震･津波の惨状をテレビやWebを見て，この巨大な災害で困っている人々を助けたいという思いを強く感じ，義援金を日本赤十字社に送りました。
その後も，被災者の方々に何か出来ないか考えていた。そんな時，ポールは私にこのプロジェクトを話してくれた。この活動の趣旨，日本の子ども達を気に掛けてくれる男たちがいることに共感し，彼らをサポートすることを決めました。子ども達が日本を元気にしてくれると信じています。だから，異国から来た彼らが子ども達を励ましてくれることを願っています。
